Day Twelve - All About Ellen Oh ( Prophecy)

Debutante Profile

Name – Ellen Oh
Debut - Prophecy
Genre – Fantasy
Website – HERE
Blog -  HERE
Twitter - HERE

Ellen Oh is an adjunct college instructor and former entertainment lawyer who one day picked up a Genghis Khan biography and was never quite the same again. It was the start of an obsessive fascination with ancient Asian history that led to years of researching, which culminated in writing Prophecy, her first novel. She also loves martial arts films, K-pop, K-dramas, and cooking shows, and she thinks the Last Airbender series was the best animated show ever created. Originally from New York City, Ellen lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with her husband and three daughters and is always on the hunt for a decent bagel.

Dream Debutante Dress -  The last dress I wore was my wedding dress, and I wore that under duress. I’m not a dress person. I prefer pants. I think it comes from a lifelong fear of inadvertently showing my underwear. Also, in the event of a zombie apocalypse, I can trip the girl next to me in the short mini because she will inevitably be wearing heels.

Notes from a YA Debutante

I like lists a lot, as evidenced by my bio page here. But having compiled a super list of things about me already, I figured I’d already used up all my interesting facts. So I thought I’d tell you a story instead.

Once upon a time there was a girl who lived in Brooklyn, NY. Her parents owned a restaurant and the girl worked as unpaid labor. It was a hard life. She was expected to get straight A’s even though she had to work every single night and weekend at the restaurant until closing. Her parents didn’t make a lot of money so the girl wore a lot of second hand clothes and owned only 1 pair of shoes at a time. The kids at school were incredibly mean and the girl felt like she had nowhere to turn. One day a strange little old lady with wings popped out of the air in front of her exclaiming that she was the girl’s fairy godmother here to help her look beautiful and show her off at the school social and win over the handsome prince. The girl rolled her eyes and said “Are you out of your mind? I’ve got a better idea. Turn me into a scary demon girl and let’s go scare the shit out of the kids at school instead.” So the strange little old lady turned the girl into a horrifying demon/dragon girl that terrorized all the kids in the school, rejected the handsome prince, turned all the mean girls into whatever thing they hated the most in life, got elected student body president, and enjoyed herself marvelously. The End.

Now even though that is just a story, it is also me and probably says a whole lot more about me than if I had told you a bunch of random facts! ;o)

Bookie's Note: That's certainly a different take on a self introduction but I enjoyed it! It sounds like you had a hard time growing up Ellen but you still came up on top which is what really counts! Bullying is horrible and for you to push through, that's what really matters! Thank-you for sharing, even if it was just a story, you have shared a little bit of your past with us! :)

Make sure to come back tomorrow for the second half of Ellen's feature! We have some juicy secrets lined up and a fantastic giveaway!

  2. I'm quite the opposite since I love wearing dresses. Their cooler, literally, because they allow the breeze to touch my short short legs. =)) For some reason, I kind of envy the working thing. Working seems fun... or maybe that's just because I haven't worked yet.

Looking forward for tomorrow's post about Prophecy!

  12. I love the idea of using a story as a way to learn more about an author instead of a list of facts.
