Mindee Arnett is the author of two forthcoming young adult series. The first book in her contemporary fantasy series, The Nightmare Affair, will be available March 5, 2013 from Tor Teen (Macmillan). Her currently untitled YA sci-fi thriller will debut Winter 2014 from Balzer + Bray (HarperCollins). She lives on a horse farm in Ohio with her husband, two kids, a couple of dogs, and an inappropriate number of cats. She’s addicted to jumping horses and telling tales of magic, the macabre, and outer space.
Notes from a YA Debutante
It’s no secret that I’m terrible
about writing about myself. This should also be a no-brainer. I mean, hello, I
write fiction, not autobiography or
memoir. My characters live way more interesting
lives than I do. They get to do cool things like cast magic spells, wander
through dreams, fly spaceships. Me? Boring by comparison.
Nevertheless, I have come up with the top ten semi-interesting/amusing/weird/disturbing
things about me:
10. Sushi is my drug of choice. Followed closely by anything dark
chocolate.
9. I have a framed “Van Gogh’s Exploding Tardis” poster hanging in
my home office, and Donna Noble is my favorite Doctor Who companion.
8. I love the Lord of the
Rings movies even more than the books—sacrilege, I know, but there you have
it.
7. Both of my kids were born on the same day, two years apart with
no planning involved.
6. My license plate holder reads: Leaf on the Wind, Wash is my Co-Pilot (and if you know what this
means, you and I can definitely be friends).
5. I’m a pantser who likes to stop and ask for directions.
4. While writing The
Nightmare Affair, I obsessively listened/watched episodes of Veronica Mars.
3. Given the choice, I would pick Dean over Sam.
2. In the universe of my imagination where I am Goddess of
Everything, the Star Wars prequels
were never made, Firefly was never
cancelled, and J.K. Rowling writes one fantasy novel a year.
1. I can touch my nose with my tongue.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bookie's Note: I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am that you can touch your nose with your tongue. Honestly I just spent the last 30 seconds trying ( no joke!). I share the same birth DAY with my brother but the same month! :P And like you, I'm a pantser ;)
Make sure to come back tomorrow for the second half of Mindee's feature! We have some juicy secrets lined up and a fantastic giveaway!
Badass Bookie xx
I love The Lord of the Rings movies too. Awesome to learn more about Mindee.
ReplyDeleteI would pick Dean over Sam too :P Loved your list, Mindee! And I can't barely touch the top edge of my lip with my tongue, much less my nose! lol
ReplyDeleteShe had me at sushi and dark chocolate. ;) OMG I totally tried to touch my nose with my tongue too and seriously, not even close. And I also share the same Day as my sister (21st) but different months. Great post!!
ReplyDeleteI love the LOTR movies better too!!
ReplyDeleteAnd that dress is gorgeous *drool*
I love (veggie) sushi - in fact I'm planning to make some from scratch tomorrow ^^ Fact number 7 is freaky but cool o.O
ReplyDeleteI'm also a pantser but I still have to learn to ask for directions...
Oh, and I'd also pick Dean over Sam, even though he'd eventually drive me crazy :P
Your dress is soooo pretty! *sigh*
I'm part of the Nighmare Affair blog tour and can't wait to get the ARC and start reading it :)
ReplyDeleteNumber 7 and 1 were extremely amusing to me :D and I wish JK Rowling wrote a novel a year :|
At first I was a bit meh, as I didn't like the dress very much, but you seriously got cooler as the facts went on. Then you said you had the leaf on the wind number plate and I went squueeeeeeeeeeee and then you said you'd choose Dean over Sam, you prefer the LOTR movies to the books....why aren't we friends???? hahaha
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome post! I love that dress! And I'm not really very girly but when I saw it, I went oooooh :)
ReplyDeleteYes, this dress is very girlie which is so not me normally, but if was fun to pretend :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the dress:) Truly awesome:)
ReplyDeleteI too love Dean:)
How cool is it that your kids have the same birthday:)
Waaaaash!!! *sob*
ReplyDeleteI will never get over that. NEVER. Thanks for bringing back the trama.
(Also your dress is beautiful and Donna was awesome.)
Mindee your quirky facts list made me laugh...looking forward to reading your books :D
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that dress. Also, I'd totally love to live in the world where you are Goddess of Everything, sounds like my kind of paradise. I'm also a huge Veronica Mars fan, and if I knew nothing about you or your book besides the fact you watched the show obsessively while writing, it would still make the top of my TBR pile.
ReplyDeleteI'm now wishing I was cool enough to be your friend. At least, I can read your book comes out. Congrats on getting it published.
Her dress is gorgeous! And I can't touch my nose with my tongue. lmao
ReplyDeleteI can also touch my tongue to my nose and love Veronica Mars! Can't wait for this book!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress!! And Firefly wasn't cancelled in my world either and neither was Veronica Mars for that matter!! Also, I must find the Firefly license plate holder! LOVE!! I so need that : )
ReplyDeleteI haven't even read any of Tolkien's books but I usually watch the Lord of the Rings movies every year or so!
ReplyDeleteOh, and the dress is beautiful. It'll look good on anybody and is super feminine.
That dress is beautiful. I am not very girly, but even I would have to wear that dress if given a chance.
ReplyDeleteIt is really awesome that your kids were born on the same day. One birthday party, and done. They might not like it so much though, hmmm? :)
Very excited about The Nightmare Affair. I think I might just love it.
The Star Wars prequels should NEVER have been made!! And I love the Lord of the Rings anything. Sushi is awesome, but I rarely get it, and I love me some chocolate! I have a stubby little tongue.
wow!!! i loved that dress... :)and Dean has always been my favorite... :)
ReplyDeleteDark chocolate and Lord of the Rings movies, two of my favorite things.
