Day Nine - All About Nobody But Us + Giveaway

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Book Profile
Name - Nobody But Us (Goodreads)
Author - Kristin Halbrook
Genre - Contemporary
Release Date - January 29th 2013
Bonnie and Clyde meets IF I STAY in this addictively heart-wrenching story of two desperate teenagers on the run from their pasts.
They’re young. They’re in love. They’re on the run.
Zoe wants to save Will as much as Will wants to save Zoe. When Will turns eighteen, they decide to run away together. But they never expected their escape to be so fraught with danger....
When the whole world is after you, sometimes it seems like you can’t run fast enough.
Nobody But Us, told in alternating perspectives from Will and Zoe, is an unflinching novel, in turns heartbreaking and hopeful, about survival, choices, and love...and how having love doesn’t always mean that you get a happy ending.
Available - The Book Depository | Fishpond | Amazon | Barnes and Noble
The Insider's Scoop
Five Things About Nobody But Us you Won’t Find in the Book:
5. I love my cover. Zoe looks exactly like Zoe. Brilliant job, cover designers! Will’s a bit different in my head. He looks a lot like BBoy Legacy, to me. Will does not, however, breakdance. No one ever taught his. Like so much else in his life. (Legacy: HERE)
4. I drove the final stretch of the road trip in the book during my last round of revisions. At that time, I added some setting details, including a gas station whose location is perfectly suited for my story. The gas station was always there, though; the town with the roller coaster? That was a new addition. And is also real, out in the Nevada desert.
3. Someone asked me once if a certain character ends up happy, eventually. I can’t say which character (sorry!), but once you’ve read it, you’ll know it as the narrator of the last couple of chapters. The answer is yes, after some time and work, this character lives a happy, purposeful life. I believe in the power of healing.
2. The part where Will releases the van brake to move the car out of the driveway when he’s a teenager comes from real life experiences when my brothers or I would move the family van so we could play basketball or tennis against the garage door. Or butt’s-up. Nothing untoward ever happened when we moved the van in real life, thank goodness.
1. One of the hardest things about writing Nobody But Us, but also one of my favorite learning experiences ever, was making the voices as distinct as possible. Since this is a dual narrative novel, I wanted to voices to be distinct enough that the reader wouldn’t even need the chapter headings to know who is talking. I feel very well equipped to write dual narrative again in the future (which I very well might!). The best compliment is when early readers notice how distinct the voices are. I get all warm and snuggly when I hear that.
  7. There is so much to say. I love love the cover. The colors are bright yet the picture is so sad. Huhu. I love books with dual narratives because you get two sides of the story. I like it that way. Cannot wait for this!
  22. I'm so glad when I hear author's taking the dual point of view seriously. I hate when characters all sound the same, instead of having their own voices and perspectives. I love reading alternate view points to see how characters view the same thing differently. I think it's a great way to get to know the characters, though it's extremely hard to pull off.
    Also, got to love how you drove the last stretch yourself. That kind of dedication and real life knowledge makes me feel really good about reading this book.
