The Adoration of Jenna Fox

Review Time! I'm sorry I've been a little lack lately with posting reviews and stuff but I STILL in the midst of exams! I haven't been reading as much as I would like and the books I have read are waiting to be reviewed! I finished The Adoration of Jenna Fox a while ago and it's literally pains me to leave it there unreviewed so I'm taking time of studying to do so!

( Goodreads) Who is Jenna Fox? Seventeen-year-old Jenna has been told that is her name. She has just awoken from a coma, they tell her, and she is still recovering from a terrible accident in which she was involved a year ago. But what happened before that? Jenna doesn't remember her life. Or does she? And are the memories really hers?

This fascinating novel represents a stunning new direction for acclaimed author Mary Pearson. Set in a near future America, it takes readers on an unforgettable journey through questions of bio-medical ethics and the nature of humanity. Mary Pearson's vividly drawn characters and masterful writing soar to a new level of sophistication

The Short Story ? - A haunting novel about a girl who used to be called Jenna Fox. A new take on science-fiction, a plot full of twists and turns, a mysterious past that leaves readers eager for more. The Adoration of Jenna Fox is a beautifully written novel about what the future could bring...Loved it!

The Long Story ? - The Adoration of Jenna Fox is quite an old release and I've been wanting to read it for some time now, thank-you to Allen and Unwin for the review copy, much appreciated! People have mistaken this as a Dystopian but it's not really, it's futuristic but it's not based around an controlling society. Therefore it's science fiction but not dystopian :P

The plot is based around here the development of medical ethics and it's all really engrossing! It's clever and clearly a great deal of research went into the novel. It's rather slow moving at the start and since the novel is told from Jenna's perspective, readers know something isn't right but it's not told what's wrong with Jenna until half way through the book! It's really quite original, I would have never guessed it and I don't want to spoil it for you guys either so you just have to read the novel! The ending is a little sad as well :/ and a minor love story as well! It's everything packed into one book!

It's a little bit of a coming-to-age novel as well. Although it's alot to do with sci-fi, it's also a novel about personal development and finding who you are. I'm not all that much of a fan of "dark contemporary" but Jenna's "issues" connect with the "wrongness" about her and it's all very interesting! The Adoration of Jenna Fox has really great characterisation! Jenna's attends this little school with four other kids and they're 'wrong' in a way that's makes them easy to connect to because nobodies perfect. It's a novel about the flaws in perfection.

I would strongly recommend The Adoration of Jenna Fox to anyone whose looking for a novel that's different, captivating and touching. It's a novel that draws emotions out of you, from the tears to the anger. Jenna's a character that everyone can relate to, just a girl who hasn't found a purpose yet. Haunting, mysterious, touching and original. Who is Jenna Fox?

Rating - 4/5

  3. I read this a while ago as well - it was a good novel, although I didn't *love* it...

And you say you don't like dark contemporaries now, but just you wait... haha. Two years ago, I didn't read contemporary at all. Look at me now!

  4. I recently read this book! I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say I loved it. The way it was written so matter-of-fact made it hard for me to sit down with it for any great lengths of time. That being said, I know if it were written any other way it wouldn't have the same impact on the reader.

I loved the subject matter of the book though. It seemed so creepy to me because I don't doubt that in the distant future something like what happened in the book could probably actually happen in reality. I mean, to an extent, you know?

  5. Another book with girl who lost her memory. I wonder how will she find the way to figure out the fact beyond all her questions.

Something wrong with the girl eyes. It's frightening. Does it reflect what happen inside the book?

  7. Great review! I read this book earlier this year and really enjoyed it myself. The only part I didn't really like was the epilogue. I'm excited about the sequel, though!

  10. This sounds so unlike anything else out there at the moment, and I love reading things that just a bit different from the norm.
Thanks for reviewing it... I'm going to HAVE to add it my growing TBR list (which is getting HUGE).

  12. Nice review. I did enjoy this book too and I'm looking forward to the sequel coming out soon. I also appreciate that you pointed out that Adoration is a science fiction book-it seems like lately people lump science fiction and dystopia in together.
