Notes from a YA Debutante
So, first off, thanks for having me as a debutante! There are many talented people debuting in 2014 and I’m honored to be counted among them. (Thank-you for taking part!)
9 RANDOM THINGS ABOUT THIS DEBUTANTE
2. Unlike most hyphenated surnames, mine is not a mishmash of my parents’ names. “Lloyd-Jones” is the way it’s always been, as far back as I can trace my family history. (Which, admittedly, isn’t very far.) It’s also a very Welsh name. I’ve had random people see my name, give me a knowing nod and draw out the word, “Welsh,” like I’m part of a secret club I never knew existed.
3. I'm a recovering anime addict. Some of my favorites still include Sailor Moon, YuYu Hakusho, Orphen, and Gundam SEED. I'm pretty sure my love of anime has leaked into my writing style - I prefer large casts, action, and always include humor.
4. I don't get carsick. I also don't get sick on roller coasters or airplanes. However, I do get horribly seasick.
5. I can't swim.
6. It's possible I have issues with water. The reigning theory is that I died on the Titanic in a past life.
7. That might also explain why I was never a fan of the movie. Actually, my favorite movie is the Last Unicorn. And How To Train Your Dragon. And Millennium Actress. (I can’t decide!)
8. I prefer television to movies. There’s something really satisfying about watching a story’s threads come together over the course of months or even years. My all-time favorite tv show is DS9.
9. I’m a trekkie. Live long and prosper, dude.

No. 1 is adorable!
ReplyDeleteHow To Train Your Dragon is one of my favourites too! A very underrated film in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is fabulous! Though I wouldn't wear the headpiece :p
ReplyDeleteI loved, loved DS9!!!!!!!!!! Trekkies unite!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the most daring dresses I've seen! And yes to preferring tv over movies, you get so much more out of a long tv show than just a movie. I think that theory about how you died on the titanic in a past life is pretty funny, because it's what my family uses to explain our fears. Like my mom, she hates fire and we say it's because she was burned as a witch in a past life!
ReplyDeleteWooo, interesting dress! I probably would never wear anything like that - with the ruffles - but I love the artistic design of the dress! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteStunning dress! Oh I don't get you. How can you prefer television to movies? I love movies :)
ReplyDeletelove the dress...very unique and beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteThe dress in gorgeous! I'm a trekkie too, I love Original Trek and DS9. I feel the same way about television and movies, especially since I remember as a kid that ABC, NBC and other channels used to do epic tv movies that would last for weeks and give complete stories that aren't limited to a little over two hours if you were lucky to resolve all plot issues. When I see movies in theaters I sometimes think this would be better as show so everything could be addressed. Can't wait for your debut to hit shelves! :D
ReplyDeleteThose antlers and getting through doorways elegantly cannot happen! Though the dress is GORGEOUS!
ReplyDeleteLOOVE How to Train your dragon! :) And "grammatically correct surfer"- this made me laugh soo hard! XD
ReplyDeleteI'm not brave enough to wear a dress like that but I love the color and detail, including the antlers. Don't worry Emily I'm not a fan of water either. LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm so afraid of water because of the Titanic! Think I may have been there with Emily on the ship when it sank ;P
ReplyDeleteHow To Train Your Dragon is a really funny movie! :D
ReplyDeleteI love how to train your dragon!
ReplyDeleteThat dress looks so beautiful. The detail in it is amazing! I wish I could pull off a dress like that :p
ReplyDeletethat dress is awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't swim as well. But now I am thinking to change that and learn to swim :D
Alexander McQueen was such a brilliant fashion designer, that dress is perfect choice, in my opinion. I LOL-ed at #1 and #9. Also, love DS9. :) Congrats on your debut novel! :)
ReplyDeleteneed to roll back to Deep Space 9 sometime. Cardassian bad asses. except for the tailor. Shape shifting has how many possibilities?? Laws of Acquisition. But barely had a taste of that show.
