Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff US Cover Reveal + Giveaway (Int'l)

Along with eight other AWESOME blogs ( Seriously to be included in this wolf pack - I should be considered royalty I feel so HONOURED) I'm revealing the US cover for STORMDANCER by Jay Kristoff! A while back Kristi @ The Story Siren helped Jay reveal the UK cover of Stormdancer which looks like this -

It's great huh? You know the cherry blossom, the awesome font, the contrast between the dark colours of the badass chick ( who looks like me on a Saturday night when I'm doing n**ja stuff) and the light background. And those symbols down the side of the cover which mean nothing to me right now but still look great!

HOWEVER - this cover? Pfffffft sorry UK but you got the short straw for this cover because the US one is completely A M A Z I N G! Can we get a A M A Z I N G? And another A M A Z I N G!

When I saw it I was like -

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO I PRESENT YOU WITH the most beautiful cover that you'll ever see because I'm on the cover - legit THE US COVER FOR STORMDANCER -

ARE YOU PLURGING RAINBOWS TOO? Isn't my tattoo sleeve totally badass?

What do you get when you combine Steampunk with Japanese Warrior Stuff? - Some pretty awesome cover art A BADASS NOVEL.

A DYING LAND

The Shima Imperium verges on the brink of environmental collapse; decimated by clockwork industrialization and the machine-worshipers of the Lotus Guild. The skies are red as blood, land choked with toxic pollution, wildlife ravaged by mass extinctions.

AN IMPOSSIBLE QUEST

The hunters of Shima's imperial court are charged by their Shōgun to capture a thunder tiger – a legendary beast, half-eagle, half-tiger. But any fool knows thunder tigers have been extinct for more than a century, and the price of failing the Shōgun is death.

A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL

Yukiko is a child of the Fox clan, possessed of a hidden gift that would see her executed by the Lotus Guild. Accompanying her father on the Shōgun’s hunt, she finds herself stranded: a young woman alone in Shima’s last wilderness, with only a furious, crippled thunder tiger for company. Even though she can hear his thoughts, even though she saved his life, all she knows for certain is he’d rather see her dead than help her.But together, the pair will form an indomitable friendship, and rise to challenge the might of an empire.

STORMDANCER is released September 18th through Thomas Dunne books/St Martin’s Press

  2. Yes! I completely agree with you! US one is miles ahead of the UK version! The tattoos so awesome and oh my god! (Face expression like the picture above.) I am seriously reading this! Steampunk AND Japenenese warrior?! Oh purrrlease what more could you want?! It's all you could want for a badass book! :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I like both covers, but the US cover is my favorite. I love the tattoo and all the red.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  23. OMG! I love love love the cover! And holy crap. I need this book. I really, really need it. Like the US cover the most :D

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have to admit, I am so surprised by this cover! Usually the UK/Australian covers are WAY better than the U.S. ones, but the U.S. cover of Stormdancer is nothing short of phenomenal! It's definitely my favorite and I love it! :D I feel as if it captures the mood and tone of the novel set by the synopsis much better than the overseas cover and I can't wait to read this! :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Damn! Now I have to order the large hardcover print to savour the awesomeness of this book

    ReplyDelete
  26. The US cover owns it! I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm obsessed with anything and everything Japanese, so I'm biased when I say: I love it! I love it! I LOVE it!!

I'm going to have to change my Japanese name to Yukiko...

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think this might be my favorite cover ever... or at least this year.

  29. The cover is so epic! I LOVE IT

    ReplyDelete
  30. Somehow it's totally kickass AND beautiful at the same time. Gorgeous artwork.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The cover is awesome!!! LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I like the boldness of the cover -- the sharply contrasting colors, lines, and fonts. (commenting as Justine)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I just absolutely love it! The colors stand out magnificently. I need another tattoo stat!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have to say I like the UK cover better. It's just more bright and attention drawing in my opinion. Great shelf appeal.

  35. I'm completely in LOVE with this cover. Yep, that's as much as I can say (unless you want me to write, I don't know, a billion lines about all the good things it has).
And I also LOVE the UK cover so, I'm pretty sure I'll buy both editions xD

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love. That tattoo? So ridiculously awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love the US cover, but I've always been partial to works with Jason Chan's artwork on it. The only part of the US cover I don't very much like is the font of the title, which I know, is to suggest the exoticism of an Asian country -- but I find it cliched and annoying because it also suggests that an Asian character based in an Asian world is something 'exotic' in the literary world and media in general. The UK cover's title font has less of this issue, but the character on it kind of gives me the creeps, she's so gray and... dead-looking. She looks like a samurai zombie...

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was enchanted by the first cover the moment I saw it, but there is so much more badassery in the US version! I want to read this SO BAD.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The UK cover is awesome but the US cover is more awesome! The cover is so gorgeous! :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. BADASS! The UK cover is pretty but the US one is gorgeous! The colors are striking and the details on Yukiko (the tattoos, clothes, etc) and the thunder tiger is amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Definitely loving the badass girl on the cover! Down with the pretty girls in foofy dresses. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. This is one of the most beautiful covers ever and I wants it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love the Uk one but the US one is just so Badass!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love the cover! I hope I win.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The thunder tiger is one of my favorite all-time book elements. Beyond. Epic. O.O

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yuki belongs to Fox clan!! And also that cover is too awesome to behold. It has so many intricate details that I could stare at it for hours and still be trying at the end to decipher all the meanings. Of course, once I read the book I'll be doing some more staring because I ned to find out what each thing represents in the story. =P

    </end of creepy rant>

Thank you for doing this giveaway =D

    ReplyDelete
  47. The US cover is wickedly badass. I would buy this just for the cover. The US cover has a much darker look to it than the UK one. Both are amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  48. What a high-impact cover! I love the mixture of red and black, and the thunder tiger flying across the sky is a nice touch :D

    ReplyDelete
  49. Awesome cover! Love it's boldness and originality - it's kinka BADASS like someone I know...YOU!

    :D

    ReplyDelete
  50. I really like the UK cover, but the US cover...WOW! It just stands out and is seriously gorgeous! I'll definitely be buying a US copy so I can have that pretty on my shelf forever! :-D

    ReplyDelete
  51. The things I would do to this cover.. oh wow that came out wrong. I liked the UK one but the US one is worthy to make love to.. oh wait that's...no..that's wrong

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yuki belongs to the Fox Clan. I hope this is where you want the answer though I don't think it is. Sorry if it's not. Thanks for the giveaway though. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Fox clan! I can't really decide which cover I love more. While I love the colors of the UK cover, the US is just badass! It's awesome!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Much better cover than the UK - more modern and bad-ass!

    Thanks!
    Leanne

    ReplyDelete
  55. Dudeee...this cover is effing BADASS! Sorta reminds me of MULAN in a way! PLUSSSS...I love the lettering of the title- sooo JAPANESE-LIKE! MEEEE LOVEEEE<333

    ReplyDelete
  63. I absolutely LOVE this cover! I thought it was just going to be an okay cover as I was scrolling down, but when I saw it, it was like: BAMMM! BEAUTIFUL! I love the red flowers in the background!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hallelujah! *choir singing in the background*

I really love both, but I think that since the skies are red in the world, it's just much more striking and intense-looking. You know?

I think this (http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3mdppvPy71rr85udo1_500.gif) sums it up pretty well though. It's definitely something you'll be barfing up rainbows for. The UK will appeal to adult reader audience types and US will do it for YA freaks. :) Very clever strategy, appealing to both markets. Very, very clever.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I love the cover! Yuki is in the Fox clan.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I love both, US and UK covers, but I LOOOVE the US cover...beautifully done! Fusion of steampunk and samurai warriors..whoa!! My daughter and I are looking forward to reading about Yukiko's quest. Thank you for the giveaway!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's a very stunning cover, and a nice change from the usual girls in dresses with their faces hidden. The coloring is great!
    ~ Brianna McBride

    ReplyDelete
  68. The... uh... small reddish canine clan? Fox clan!

Ooooooh, the UK cover is GORGEOUS! And then I scrolled down and saw wide-eyes and ranbows, and for a second I DEADSET THOUGHT IT WAS THE COVER :O

HOLY MOTHER TRUCK SWEET BABY CHEESES ON A CRACKER THE USE COVER IS GORGEOUS!

Also: I will automatically read anything Patrick Rothfuss blurbs... even though I still need to read The Name of the Wind... but after blurbing DoSaB, and me DYING, I'm sold. Also: did you seriously re-writed Jay's blurb, because I'm about to die laughing.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I love the cover! Her tattoo is the coolest!!

Question 5: What clan does Yukiko belong to?
    Fox clan.
    Yay! Me loves kitsune :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. I like the cherry blossom and the text front of the UK version. But overall, I prefer the US one! The girl, the lotus and the red and dark contrast. Can't wait to read this book!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Loving this WAY more than the UK art. WOW. <3

    ReplyDelete

  90. I think the Cover arkwork is beautiful! I like the red background with the lotus because it gives it a blood stained look. The girl looks so calm and prepared to fight with the wind blowing at her hair. The outfit and tattoo compliments her character too.

Also, your reaction to the cover? Beautiful.

    Thanks for participating! :D

    ReplyDelete
  99. Both covers are beautiful, but I love the US cover because it has the Thunder tiger on it. Don't ask me why I'm so obsessed with it, but since I found out a Griffin was going to be in it, I have followed Mister Kristoff religiously. He is funny. Maybe some of what you wrote in his bio is true. I thought that was funny! I'm sure he did, too. Yes, I was purging rainbows!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Maybe not purging rainbows but that is an awesome cover. Both of them. The UK one is a little less dramatic but still beautiful. (KateB)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Awesome cover--for both! 8D While the UK cover is more elegant, I think that the US one captures the bad-assery of the synopsis.

    ReplyDelete
  121. It makes my eyes bleed with greed! I love it that it isn't like every other cover out there. So many of the covers featuring females on the front cover just look like the same artists or photographers spit them out. You can definitely tell this one was made with just this book in mind.

    ReplyDelete
  122. The US cover is much cooler than the UK one, personally :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  130. So in love with the cover! Thanks for the chance to win :D

    ReplyDelete
  131. Love this cover! It's so unique and appealing to the eye. It's got a badass heroine on it, not some girl in an obnoxiously fancy dress like many covers have these days.

    ReplyDelete
