Poison Diaries

Another catch up review for the the Summer Break Challenge! Poison Diaries by Maryrose Wood and The Duchess of Northumberland. This book is going to be released late next month (not sure when) so this is like an Advanced Review! I have been reading this book online at Harpercollins Browse inside. for a limited time you can read the whole book for free! I posted a link to it, I think last monday? Anyway check out the monday madness post to get the link.

Now for the review, personally I thoguht the book was alright. I don't like reading in diary form but it was alrightish in this case. It wasn't what I expected though, I thought I was about magic and poison and evil witches but in turn it was about a girl who lives with her father who in turn owns a poison garden. There is also a boy called Weed. The characters were alright, the plot was good, cover nothing to note, starts was kinda and ending was abit teary. That pretty mcuh sums up the book. It was good but not great, not really mine genre either but I guess I stray from the genres sometimes :P. Rating 3/5

Wicked Enchantment

Hey all!!! It's Actvity three time! We are writing catch up for all the books we have read lately and well I have to say I probably write one review for every three that I read so yer this is a great. It's a today thing so if you see a chain of review this is why!!!!

Alright first catch up review is Wicked Enchantment by Anya Bast. It is the first in her new series Dark Magick which was released earlier this year. I finshed this on Friday but because I finished Changeless on the same day I reviewed Changeless and left this one (oops). Anyway this is the first Dark Fantasy non YA book I have read in a while. I can't really think of anything wrong with it but it wasn't really anything different either. It was 'Just Another Book' the plot was alright, characters alright, ending alright. Everything was just alright so really nothing memorable. However I really liked how it weaves the Wild Hunt into the story. It was an alrightish book but it was one of the betteralrightish book. ; P Rating 3/5

A Spy in the House

Review Time! I finished two books yesterday (whoop whoop) but I'm only going to review one today because I saved the other one for a rainy day review (hehe) Anyway, yesterday I finished A Spy in the House by Y.S.Lee. I'm positive this is a 2010 Debut Author book so YAYYYYY Two down in my challenge!!!!

(which Cover do you like better? I got the red one but I like the other one better.)

Anyway, I really liked this book!!!!! I love the 1800's setting. Not to mention all the mysteries solving and 'stuff'. The plot was pretty good however it kinda got mushy and confusing at the end. The characters were really interesting and absolutely loved Mary & James. the writing style was really easy to read and it was a nice change from all the heavy reading I've done lately. Great book, fantastic plot (minus the ending), interesting charcters and yer a good read! So make sure you pick it up if you're into the mystery, historical 'stuff'. Rating 3.75/5

In My Mailbox #4

Hey Guys! It's Sunday!!!! So it's In My Mailbox time! In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren. In My Mailbox is when you show what bookishly related 'stuff' you got this week. It's an awesome meme that is heaps of fun so get invovled! Now this week I tried to cut down the amount of books I got since my TBR pile is wayyy to high  (nearly up to my waist and I not so short either!) so I only got three books this week! ( I linked them to Goodreads descriptions taken off there too.) Anyway they were good book that I'm dyingto read so here we go ....

1) Raised By Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
I have been wanting to read this since I saw it at the shops a few weeks ago. However, I was broke than and couldn't really afford it so I got it this week :P

Description- Adopted by the Alpha of a werewolf pack after a rogue wolf brutally killed her parents right before her eyes, fifteen-year-old Bryn knows only pack life, and the rigid social hierarchy that controls it. That doesn't mean that she's averse to breaking a rule or two. But when her curiosity gets the better of her and she discovers Chase, a new teen locked in a cage in her guardian's basement, and witnesses him turn into a wolf before her eyes, the horrific memories of her parents' murders return. Bryn becomes obsessed with getting her questions answered, and Chase is the only one who can provide the information she needs. But in her drive to find the truth, will Bryn push too far beyond the constraints of the pack, forcing her to leave behind her friends, her family, and the identity that she's shaped?

2)Never Cry Werewolf by Heather Davis
Another one that I have had my eyes on. Second wolfish book this week hehe

Description- Shelby’s summer plans go totally awry when her horrible stepmother sends her off to “brat camp” as punishment for one too many broken curfews. Camp is full of spoiled rich kids, obnoxious counselors wanting Shelby to talk about her feelings, and a totally inhumane “no cell phones” policy. Things start looking up, though, when Shelby meets fellow camper (and son of a rock star) Austin Bridges III. But soon she realizes there’s more to Austin than crush material—his family has a dark secret, and he wants Shelby’s help guarding it. Shelby knows that bad boys get her into trouble…but who is she to turn her back on a guy in need, especially such a good-looking one?

3)The Demon's Lexion by Sarah Rees Brennan
Picked it up because the guy on the cover looks good and well I wanted to read it :P

Description- Nick and his brother, Alan, have spent their lives on the run from magic. Their father was murdered, and their mother was driven mad by magicians and the demons who give them power. The magicians are hunting the Ryves family for a charm that Nick's mother stole -- a charm that keeps her alive -- and they want it badly enough to kill again. Danger draws even closer when a brother and sister come to the Ryves family for help. The boy wears a demon's mark, a sign of death that almost nothing can erase...and when Alan also gets marked by a demon, Nick is des-perate to save him. The only way to do that is to kill one of the magicians they have been hiding from for so long. Ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse, Nick starts to suspect that his brother is telling him lie after lie about their past. As the magicians' Circle closes in on their family, Nick uncovers the secret that could destroy them all.

That's all this week! What did you get in your Mailbox?

Changeless

Review Time! You know I actually pretty disappointed with how many books I have been able to read this week. Last Holidays I was able to read one book a day butthis holidaysit seems like start 10 books a day and finish one a week (not good). However, I did manage to finish Changeless by Gail Carriger today. Now last holidays I finished the first one Soulless and loved it so high hopes for this one. On a sidenote has anyone realised I have read alot of second in the series in the last two weeks? Anyway, I quite liked this one very much like the first but interesting plot. I love the victorian setting with the supernatural twist. It makes so much more memorable than just plain supernaturalism (is that a word?) So it started off a bit slowly like blah blah blah and than it got interesting so I guess that made it okay. There was this bomb *shock, gasp, scandal* at the end which leaves me DYING to read to the next book. However since I have this habit of reading the ending first than going back to read the whole book it wasn't so bombly (is this word too?). Anyway, I find Ivy, the best friend a great nuisance and can't stand her but that's the whole point so I will let it go. The sisters and the mum is annyoing too but they are portrayed that way and it's certainly a very entertaining read. The style of writing does take some time getting used to but that's because it's quite old fashioned. However, it's more bearable than Shakespere. The woman on the cover has a really unattractive fringe so no comment on the cover and besides that all that pretty good book so Rating- 4/5

Summer Break Reading Challenge

So since I have this..this addiction! of buying and borrowing more books than I can possibly read. I have dedicated this summer to somehow decreasing my TBR pile. ( I have linked all book to goodreads becasue I heart goodreads, descriptions taken of goodreads too) So my goal for this summer is to....

 MUST READ
1)I was Jane Austen's best friend by Cora Harrison
Description - When shy Jenny Cooper goes to stay with her cousin Jane Austen she knows nothing of the world of beautiful dresses, dances, secrets, gossip and romance that Jane inhabits. But Jane is already a sharp observer of the customs of courtship, and when Jenny falls utterly in love with the dashing Captain Thomas Williams, who better than Jane to help her win the heart of this most eligible of men?

2)The 13 Treasures by Michelle Harrison
Description - No one else can see the evil fairies that rouse Tanya from her sleep, torturing her at the slightest mention of their existence, but they are as real to the 13-year-old as anything she's ever known. She cannot rid herself of them, nor can she ignore them. But it is her insistence on responding to them that has her banished to her grandmother's secluded countryside manor. There is much to explore and even more to fear in the woods surrounding the estate. But, the forest isn't the only source of dark secrets, and Tanya soon finds herself entangled in a mystery that could trap her in the fairy realm forever.

3)A Spy in the House by Y.S.Lee
Description - Rescued from the gallows in 1850s London, young orphan (and thief) Mary Quinn is surprised to be offered a singular education, instruction in fine manners — and an unusual vocation. Miss Scrimshaw’s Academy for Girls is a cover for an all-female investigative unit called The Agency, and at seventeen, Mary is about to put her training to the test. Assuming the guise of a lady’s companion, she must infiltrate a rich merchant’s home in hopes of tracing his missing cargo ships. But the household is full of dangerous deceptions, and there is no one to trust — or is there? Packed with action and suspense, banter and romance, and evoking the gritty backstreets of Victorian London, this breezy mystery debuts a daring young detective who lives by her wits while uncovering secrets — including those of her own past.

4)Need by Carrie Jones
Description - Zara White suspects there's a freaky guy semi-stalking her. She's also obsessed with phobias. And it's true, she hasn't exactly been herself since her stepfather died. But exiling her to shivery Maine to live with her grandmother? That seems a bit extreme. The move is supposed to help her stay sane...but Zara's pretty sure her mom just can't deal with her right now.She couldn't be more wrong. Turns out the semi-stalker is not a figment of Zara's overactive imagination. In fact, he's still following her, leaving behind an eerie trail of gold dust. There's something not right - not human - in this sleepy Maine town, and all signs point to Zara.

5)Solace & Grief by Foz Meadows
Description - Solace Morgan was born a vampire. Raised in foster care, she has always tried to keep her abilities secret, until an eerie encounter with a faceless man prompts her to run away. Finding others with similar gifts, Solace soon becomes caught up in a strange, more vibrant world than she ever knew existed. But when the mysterious Professor Lukin takes an interest in her friends, she is forced to start asking questions of her own. What happened to her parents? Who is Sharpsoft? And since when has there been a medieval dungeon under Hyde Park?

6)Little Vampire Women by Lynn Messina, Louisa May Alcott
Description - The dear, sweet March sisters are back, and Marmee has told them to be good little women. Good little vampire women, that is. That's right: Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy have grown up since you last read their tale, and now they have (much) longer lives and (much) more ravenous appetites. Marmee has taught them well, and so they live by an unprecedented moral code of abstinence ... from human blood. Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy must learn to get along with one another, help make society a better place, and avoid the vampire hunters who pose a constant threat to their existence. Plus, Laurie is dying to become a part of the March family, at any cost. Some things never change.

7)Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Description - Adopted by the Alpha of a werewolf pack after a rogue wolf brutally killed her parents right before her eyes, fifteen-year-old Bryn knows only pack life, and the rigid social hierarchy that controls it.

8)Never Cry Werewolf by Heather Davis
Description - Shelby’s summer plans go totally awry when her horrible stepmother sends her off to “brat camp” as punishment for one too many broken curfews. Camp is full of spoiled rich kids, obnoxious counselors wanting Shelby to talk about her feelings, and a totally inhumane “no cell phones” policy. Potential NEW BLOG FEATURE - Trial Run

Hola Amigos! As you can read I am running an trial of a new blog feature today. Since I'm on holidays I have been busy racking through my brain to find new ideas for my blog! So far I have come up with an idea for a Blog meme (potential, maybe, could be epic fail), several blog feature ideas and a whole bunch of books I want to review so I decided to put something in action today. *Clears Throat* Introducing for the very first time ...Writers Block! and no it's not a help group for troubled would be writers (that's another good ideathough...)

Now to explain this feature, it is like a ehhhh game. Basically it's like gathering together and writing a story of some thought. So I would start the story by writing two sentences or something like that and than a commenter (aka you) would continue it on from there and so on.

Example-
ME- It was a hot summer's night. Lucy glanced out at the ocean.
Commenter #1 - She was deep in thought when suddenly batman appeared
Commenter #2 - he swooped her of her feet and carried her into the night

Something like that BUT obviously longer. Rules for this game/feature are-
1) No killing off charcters
2) Only write appropriate things so no batmans or spidermans or paris hiltons
3) Please don't end the story ( like don't write and they lived happily ever after
4) You part in the story has to be at least a few sentences to a short paragraph lengh but no more than that
5) You can't post continuous parts of the story their has to be someone else's 'part' in between. (so you can post more than one part

So yup that's the Potential NEW BLOG FEATURE. Writer's Block would go for a period of five days, so you have five days to contribute to the story. No more contributes after five days for on the sixth day the 'finished story' will be posted up. NOTE- I will finish the story if it doesn't quite make sense. On the seventh day there will be brand new Writer's Block!

THIS IS A TRIAL RUN SO IF I DON"T GET MANY CONTRIBUTORS THAN IT"S GAME OVER RED ROVER AND I WILL OFFICIALLY BE THE WORLD'S MOST UNIMAGINATIVE PERSON. EVER. DO YOU WANT KILL MY SELF-ESTEEM??? IF NOT PLEASE PARTICIPATE!!!!!!!

Okay, I will start now *deep breath, crossing finger, praying to god*

Story Untitled YET.

There he stood across the room. Even from the entrance I could see that he was looking at me. (YOUR TURN!)

Spells

Review Time. AGAIN! Yesterday was the first day of holidays and I read one of the most amzing book in the world so I couldn't not write a review. I finished Spells by Aprilynne Pike yesterday! This is the sequel to Wings which is like one of the best books in the world ( I HEART TAMANI!!!! TEAM TAMANI!!!! DAVID CAN GO JUMP OFF A CLIFF !!!!!!!) Anyway, I had very high expectations for this book since I absolutely loved Wings and I wasn't disappointed either! Amazingggggg

The plot was really good however I would have liked to see more of Tamani and less of David. Honestly, I loved half the book (the half with Tamani and Laurel) but kinda wanted to rip out Laurel from the pages for the other half and shkae some sense into her. Gosh, that girl is sooooooo selfish! She thinks she can have the best of both world and..and SHE CAN'T ! She hurt Tamani and I don't like it D: ( I am seriously in love Tamani you know) Anyway besides that fact the book was really good ! The best book I have read in a while (since Spirit Bound) . Great charcters, although I'm a tad disappointed with Laurel and I think David should go play on the road BUT Tamani *swoooooon*. Fantastic plot, Great Romance, loved the cover and yer nothing really I can pick on soooo Rating - 4.5/5 (Laurel cost the book the .5 *sigh*)

Ghostgirl : Homecoming

Review Time! Finished Ghostgirl : Homecoming by Tonya Hurley on Saturday!I had high expectations for this one for I really liked the first one. Um, I have to say those high expectations weren't exactly met which is one of the reasons why it took me sooooo long to read it. The first book was wayy better, this one just wasn't interesting. The plot was really pointless and didn't really go anyway ( I call them circle plots - One BIG FAT CIRCLE and back to where we started) The characters don't seem as cool as they were in the first one. The ending was alright but the start was borrringgggg. Really, I have to say I was very very very disappointed with this one D: THe first book was so much better! So unfortunately I didn't enjoy this one very much and found it quite boring. D; Rating 2.5 / 5

How Aussie are You?

The Hollows

OMG Hey Guys ! It has been sooooo long since I last posted D: (Well two days but....) Anyway, I have been really busy this week being the last week of school and everything ( yup I am OFFICIALLY on HOLIDAYS !!!!) I had like discos and sport events and catching up with friends who are going to Italy and Hawaii and Germany and England etc etc ( How lucky are they?) Yer, so that's the jest of it. However I did get to finish like one book and start like ten while I was not able to blog.

Today I finished The Hollows by Jessica Verday which I got in my mailbox last week. It was kinda based around the legend of the Headless Horseman ( Ichabod right?) Anyway, I haven't read it but it was kinda based around that. The book was quite enjoyable but kinda long. For instance something that could be described with say one page was spread over five pages. It was good but there was wayyyyyy too much not needed information I thought. However, the writing stlye was easy to read, the plot was good and characters were good too *Caspian* ( green eyes all the way to go ;P I'm a sucker for green eyes) So bascially it was an alrightish book nothing really special but easily enjoyed (sorta) Rating - 3.5/5

Living Dead Girl

Hola! How's everyone feeling??? My school had a excursion today ( aka 4km walk in a forest ) and I literally can't feel my hands and feet buy because I love you all so much I have thawed my frozen fingers and I'm reviewing Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott! Now do you guys remember that review I wrote about Wintergirls by Laurie Anderson a few weeks ago? Well this was another one of those 'I didn't expect it to be like what it is' type of a book. However the thing with this one is that I actually liked it.

Okay, so I don't like reading about depressing emo, anorexic, abused, bullied etc etc. kids and I picked up Living Dead Girl thinking it might be about you know, ghosts or something but it turned out to be about a Abducted Girl who is abused. So my first reaction was 'oh, ew I don't want to read this' but then I read it anyway because that's what you do with a book and becuase it's actually pretty short. I read about five pages in and I was hooked. THIS. IS. A. VERY. CREEPY. BOOK. Like although most of us would never get abducted and than abused I felt so connected to the character "Alice". I wanted to help her but I couldn't it was a really sad story. Fantastic Plot, Great Character, Nice and Easy Reading Style and guys make sure you read this one it was really touching. Rating 3.75/5

Well, first of all the cover is kinda cool don't you reckon? Um, this series really is just a quick read only about 280 pages. It was kind of a relax read which really doesn;t make sense coze reading is relaxing but you know.... The Society of S

I just finished The Society of S by Susan Hubbard so this is a fresh in my mind review :) I picked this one up in the Christmas Holidays but never made it past the prologue (hehe). So I decided to pick it up again on Monday and finished last night.( yipee) Anyway, the prologue was still very boring but I managed to get past it and into the first chapter. Now, besides the prolgues the rest of the book was actually pretty good. It was enjoyable to read. I really liked the writing style in this book it was sooooo easy to get into and understand. The plot was pretty good too and it was a different type of Vampire Story from the usual * I'm a vampire we can't be together* plot. First impressions count and since this the first of Susan's books that I have read I am pretty impressed. It can also be seen that she had to do alot of research for this book, alot of references and quoting from poems and science ( or she is a peotry and science expert). So pretty good overall, good plot, nice easy style, alrightish charcters. Bad prologue and confusing epilogue but otherwise pretty good :)

Three Wishes Wednesday #7

Hi everyone! Guess what? It's Wednesday! So, it's time for Three Wishes Wednesday! Now, Three Wishes Wednesday is a weekly blog feature here ( different from a meme) at Badass Bookie. Every Wednesday I post three books that I would do anything to get my hands (even if it means getting on my knees and living on water for a week) Anyway so basically it is like a wishlist  and this week I'm wishing for ( Are you there God/ Santa/ Fairy Godmother?) .....

1) Wanted ( Pretty Little Liars #8) by Sara Shepard

Release Date - June 8th 2010

Why- If you haven't already started reading this series I suggest you do. It is epicly awesomely addictive. It is my favourite Mystery/ Thriller series. Designer brands mixed with murder and pretty little rich girls equals one great novel! Plus, every one of them as a killer cliff hanger ending so I'm like dying to read what happens next. Plus it is now a TV Series !!!!! (Aired last night I think)

Description- In Rosewood, majestic estates sprawl for acres, and Tiffany toggle bracelets dangle from every girl's wrist. But not all that glitters is gold, and the town harbors secrets darker than anyone could imagine—like the truth about what really happened the night Alison DiLaurentis went missing. . . . Back in middle school, Ali plucked Emily, Hanna, Aria, and Spencer from obscurity and turned them into the beautiful, popular girls everyone wanted to be. Ali was the best friend they ever had. But she also made them do terrible things and taunted them with their worst secrets. Now, three years later, all their questions about Ali have finally been answered and they can put this awful chapter of their lives behind them. Or so they think.
Not every story has a happy ending, especially when four pretty little liars have done so many wicked things. In the dramatic conclusion of Sara Shepard's bestselling Pretty Little Liars series, Emily, Hanna, Aria, and Spencer could get everything they've ever wanted—unless A has one more horrifying twist in store. ( Taken of Goodreads)

2) Lonely Werewolf Girl by Martin Millar

Releases Date - March 4th 2010

Why- I went to the shops today and was going to purchase this book. * pulls out wallet and there is ive bucks* I am sadly I think broke so I wasn't able to buy it. D: But it sound sooooo good that I couldn't NOT put it in my wishlist.

Description - While teenage werewolf Kalix MacRinnalch is being pursued through the streets of London by murderous hunters, her sister, the Werewolf Enchantress, is busy designing clothes for the Fire Queen. Meanwhile, in the Scottish Highlands, the MacRinnalch Clan is plotting and feuding after the head of the clan suddenly dies intestate. As the court intrigue threatens to blow up into all-out civil war, the competing factions determine that Kalix is the swing vote necessary to assume leadership of the clan. Unfortunately, Kalix isn’t really into clan politics — laudanum’s more her thing. Even more unfortunately, Kalix is the reason the head of the clan ended up dead, which is why she’s now on the lam in London. . . This expansive tale of werewolves in the modern world — friendly werewolves, fashionista werewolves, troubled teenage werewolves, cross-dressing werewolves, werewolves of every sort — is hard-edged, hilarious, and utterly believable.

3) Mockingjay by Suznne Collins

Release Date - 24th August 2010

Why- This is third (and last) book of the Hunger Games Trilogy. Now, I am addicted to the hunger games incase you guys didn't know and I don't think I can wait til August.....but seriouly one of the best series ever written!

Description - Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she’s made it out of the bloody arena alive, she’s still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what’s worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss’s family, not her friends, not the people of District 12. Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Suzanne Collins’s groundbreaking The Hunger Games trilogy promises to be one of the most talked about books of the year.

That's all for this week! What are you wishing for?
