Last Sacrifice

Review Time! Last Sacrifice marks the last chapter for Rose's adventures and well, I get a little teary just thinking about it since Vampire Academy is one of the best series' I have ever read. The good news is that there will be a spin-off series called Bloodlines, I personally feel like I'm going to hate it already because it's not the same character as (VA ) BUT then again maybe it's better ...

Australian Cover - black background
The Short Story ? - This review is so hard for me to write, I've been sitting here for ten minute I still haven't got a thing! To put it simply Last Sacrifice was fantastic, it was emotional, romantic, unpredictable, original, comfortable to read, it was everything a good book needed to be. Beautifully written and expressive, it was a great ending to the series!

The Long Story ? - The great thing about Richelle's writing is that when  read her books ( we're focusing on VA) I don't hear myself reading the book, I hear Rose's voice and Dimitri's voice and Adrian's voice and it's simply not you reading, you're just the audience watching the story unfold.

This ability to write so beautifully in first person is rare even among so many talented authors, most people say that it's when you feel like you are the character that you know you are reading a great book, I disagree. For me, it's when the character's come to life that I feel like I reading a good book. When I read Last Sacrifice, the characters came to life. Rose, Adrian and Dimitri were real people not just a few descriptive words on piece of paper. When you feel like the characters are real, that's when you know that you are reading a good book.

What else made Last Sacrifice special? Emotions. Pure emotions throughout the book. I almost never EVER cry and I cried in this book ( okay this whole series) BUT probably not for the same reasons as most of you ( I mean you guys probably cried for Dimitri right? I didn't. ) They are plenty of book that are full of emotions, but can they make me cry, or close the book in frustration? *SPOILER*When Rose broke Adrian's heart I felt she broke my heart too ( I'm still crying in the inside for him, Adrian...) I knew exactly how Adrian felt even if I have never really been heart-brokened. I felt angry at Rose, I thought she was selfish, only caring about what she wanted . As soon as Dimitri came back to her, she gave Adrian the flick, no offense but that's just so so so cruel. Adrian really cared ( loved) her and she just never really loved him back. I still a little disappointed at Rose actually. *SPOILER*

Overall, Last Sacrifice still ranks very high up on my favourite books, it was everything a good book should be. It was the last book in a series and it left no questions unanswered that were haunting us ( well me) since the cliff-hanger in Spirit Bound. However, if I had to compare Last Sacrifice to the other book in the series, it definitely wasn't my favourite. *SPOILER* I not a big fan of love triangles in general ( someone is always heart-brokened which I think in fiction shouldn't be the case since we get so much of that in reality) but the way Rose just killed Adrian ( not literally) was just too much for me ( Team Adrian here, if you are Team Dimitri this is a happy ending for you). The ending was all about Dimitri and Rose! After Rose flicked Adrian off , he disappeared not mentioned at all so not really happy ending for everyone right? *SPOILER*

However, If you havent' read the book you should still read it or even the series because unfortunately for everyone who is reading this review, your reviewer ( Badass) is part of the minority who isn't TEAM DIMITRI so therefore wasn't too pleased with the outcome of the book and since I still loved it I don't think anyone wouldn't like it :) Rating 4/5 ( One Word - Adrian )

Thought about Bloodlines -
Richelle has said in a recent interview that Sydney would be character in Bloodlines so that's a given. I also think Adrian and Jill might be part of the spin off series due to the 'ending' . However, I really hope Adrian doesn't get together with Jill OR Sydney ...that just won't do ;P

Matched

Review Time! Note that Matched isn’t out until later this month or early next month depending on where you live! I was fortunate to receive a copy for review from Penguin Australia so thanks Penguin! I have to that the dystopian genre has kind of stolen the show from the paranormal genre!

The Short Story? – I think that after the major success of the Hunger Games Trilogy (seriously awesome series) many authors have gone beyond the standard genres (i.e. paranormal, contempt, fantasy) and have started to experiment with new genres such as dystopian. Matched is probably one of the few dystopian novels I have read besides The Hunger Games, it is also probably the only one I really enjoyed (besides The Hunger Games)

The Long Story? – The unique thing about dystopian is that unlike paranormal, the author has to create a whole new world even if it does have the typical love triangle or the forbidden love cliché. So instead of reading the same plot twenty times with the same characters who have different names, You can enjoy something that is – really hard to come by- original.

In Matched, Cassia’s society is controlled by a ruling party called the officials. Everyone’s life is determined and controlled by these people. What they eat, what they wear, what their job will be, when you will die and more importantly who they are matched with. At the age of sixteen, the matching officials match you with a boy/girl who you will spend the rest of your life with. Cassia is matched with her best friend; Xander who she believes is her perfect Match but what happen when she falls for the wrong boy?

I absolutely loved Matched! It is so different from anything else I have ever read. Ally Condie has done a fantastic job portraying a controlling society where free will is non-existent. It shows us what our lived could have been like. Matched had me hooked from the first page, reading this book was like entering a new world where everything you have learnt is useless and everything that happens surprises you over and over again. Not only was the plot/ storyline a whole new experience but reading the book itself was exciting because it was so unpredictable.

The characters were all very well brought out. Although I cannot possibly think of any way we can relate to them, the emotions they feel are common among us too, not only bringing readers closer the characters but letting us connect with them too.

Another highlight of the story was the cliff hanger ending. I usually frown upon abrupt endings because nothing really makes sense but in this case it was fantastic. It lets the readers in just enough to intrigue them and keep them in suspense, almost willing them to read the sequel!

Fantastic novel, refreshing new genre, amazingly talented author, a book you wouldn’t want to miss.

Sister Red

Review Time! Hey Guys, sorry for the lack of posts lately I had exam week so I had to focus. However, it should be a full week this week! A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of receiving a copy of Sister Red by Jackson Pearce. I can not tell you how excited I was, I had been wanting to read this book for AGES!!! Anyway, my thoughts?

The Short Story? - I think this is like a fractured re-telling of Little Red Riding Hood ( actually I sure) and it's about two sisters who fight werewolves and there is this guy called Silas and and and..it's one of the best werewolf tales I have ever read! ( NOTE* Just been told that it's more of a Re-telling than a Fratured fairytale, to be honest to me, they are both the same thing but just letting you guys know :P)

The Long Story? - Firstly, I would like all of us to put our hands together or Jackson Pearce, amazing story teller, hooked from the first page. I have always been attracted to fractured fairytales but Jackson just takes it to a whole new level! It was addictive, her writing style is just so easy to read, it feels like you are part of the novel. I would like to say that Sister Red is probably one of the most cleverly written books I have read, fractured fairytales aren't commonly written as novels and when they are, they stand out however Sister Red just took the meaning of awesome book to a whole new level! The characters are so well bought out. One of the highlights for me was the connection I felt with the Characters, they are so life-like that you can easily connect with them. Beautifully written like I already said, I love how the book started almost straightaway no blabbering on and on and on ( bo-ring) The ending was rather abrupt but in it's own unique way it was a fantastic ending. I seriously recommend everyone to read this... this awesome book!!!! Rating 4.5/5

Claire de Lune

Review Time! I had the worst possible day today! I wasn't feeling well, then I get pushed down the stairs, got kicked in the ankle, had a breakdown in english class and now I think I sprained my ankle ( it's really swollen) ...great. So I apologize for not having a more interesting post but seriously I'm having a down moment.

The Short Story ? - 2010 Debut, about a girl who find out she is a werewolf on her sixteenth birthday. The sixteenth birthday idea is pretty cliche, but the story wouldn't feel right if it wasn't so cliche would it? Enjoyed the book and loved the name of the book, although I don't get what it has to do with the book ( no reference to Claire de Lune or even a piano????)

The Long Story ? - This debut was one that I had on my TBR pile and I have to say I was a tad disappointed. The whole plot just seemed too simple and didn't live up to my expectations. It was just not that special you know? I enjoyed reading and liked the plot and the characters but it was a little bit cliche? I don't what it is but something about the book just doesn't sit right with me. I think it has something to do with the whole werewolf concept ( read the book) that the author has bought in. I'm not really comfortable with it. Nevertheless, it was a nice change from vampires, the cover was beautiful, I loved how she portrayed Matt ( that is like the third Matt I have read recently) and like I said the plot wasn't all that bad either. It was a great book, truly, but I just didn't like the werewolf concept in this book...it just kills it* Rating 3/5

*SPOILER - werewolves are only girls in this world ( doesn't just kill the whole Jacob thing?)

Twenty Boy Summer

Hello Lovelies! Review time! Unfortunately due The Indy/Indie ( Race Cars thing, I don't know how to spell it ) There is bad bad bad traffic and I couldn't not make it to the mailbox this week, although I tried, made dad drive me there but they closed already....so no IMM this week! However I have more reviews for you guys! Oh and TAYLOR SWIFT'S  SPEAK NOW IS AWESOME!!!!

The Short Story? - I finshed Twenty Boy Summer last week, I picked up the book before it became banned so ha! Anyway, I don't know why it's banned because it was an absolutely beautifully written book that I think every teen should read. BTW does anyone know why it's banned because I can't find anything wrong with it.....

The Long Story? - So the book is about a girl ( Anna) who had a 'thing' with her best friend's brother ( Matt) Sadly, Matt died of a heart defect and Anna is left with so many questions unanswered and a broken heart that refuses to be mended. One summer Frankie ( Best Friend) and Anna go to California for a holiday, there they made a pact for a twenty boy summer... but along comes Sam....

I loved Twenty Boy Summer, it was a beautifully written book about loss, pain, heart break and hope. It's a powerful book that really makes an imprint. I found myself thinking about it even after I finished it. Sarah Ockler, really is a fantastic writer. The thing I liked about this book was that the story started almost immediately, a great pace to read at. Fantastic characters, realistic but cute plot and beautifully written. I thought the ending was rather abrupt though, I would have lised to know what happened with Sam and maybe an epilogue would have been nice. The cover was beautful as well, it also has a secret meaning to it so you have to read the book to understand! In general it was a beautiful book that leaves an imprint, Rating 4/5

The Summer I turned Pretty

Review Time! I so excited to review this one because I have been wanting to read this book for a long, long time and well I won't tell you what I think about it unless you scroll down a little! I was going to wait until summer to read this but I couldn't wait so oh well!

Which cover do you like better? I got the second cover but the first cover is nice too!

The Short Story? - I had high expectations for this one since I have have been looking forward toward and any book that has made me wait better be good or else... * cracks knuckles* nah jokes, it was good anyway. Bravo! Fantastic! Great! Very cute :P

The Long Story? - I haven't read Jenny Han's first book Shug but this one was reallllllly good. I love reading paranormal and fantasy novels but sometimes it's just a relief and a nice change to read something different ( like breathing in fresh air). So either it's because I needed a change of genre or it's really is a great book, I enjoyed it immensely ( I going with the latter). Anyway, great characters, Belly portrays an excellent image of a lovesick teenager. I loved the plot which was really cute, great use of romance and brought out emotions in readers too! The ending is so mysterious and abrupt that I want to read the second book already! The book started of really well, ended with a cliff hanger and very comfortable reading style. Enough said, fantastic read and I'm rating it - 4/5  ( even if it really good I can't go around giving 5/5 everytime right? those are reserved for godly writing)

Princess for Hire

Review Time! I finished this book last Monday but because I wanted a full week of post I put of the review until today :P and since I'm technically asleep right now it's scheduled. You will find alot of my posts this week scheduled because I'm in school all week so deal with me please :P

The Short Story ? - 2010 Debut, very 'pink' and cute novel in a different way to The Summer I Turned Pretty, this one is cute because it's actually written for a younger age group I think, like romance in it is like a sixth grade romance ( Kiss, giggle, omg do you like me? I dump you after two days...yer that kind)

See what I mean bu really pink? I got the first cover! Which makes it even more kidlike!

The Long Story? - Like I said, this one was just a tad too childish for me BUT I liked it! It's been a long time since I have read a book that always ends with a happy ending and it so predictable!I remember when I was younger I use to read princess novels or fairy novels that always, ALWAYS end with a happily ever after. Oh, and the baddies are really bad! This is one of those novels and I enjoyed but I think I would have enjoyed more if I read it a few years ago maybe? Just a tad too young for me :) Great plot, cute characters ( not cute as in cute cute but as in kid like cute), the start was abit long, great ending and comfortable writing style once you get used to it. Even if it is a bit young I think I'm going to pick up the second book just because I want to relive the good old days! I recommend this to anyone who hasn't hit puberty yet I mean anyone who likes cute reads and who are in between the tween and teen stage or if you are forever right or something! Oh! and if you loveeeee pink!  Rating - 3/5

If I Stay

Review Time! I pretty sure everyone has read this one right? I wasn't so sure about it since I not that into contemporary teen fiction or anything that is even slightly depressing so that's why I left it off for so long but the thing I hate more than depressing novels is not reading a book that everyone else has read or a book that has been talked about. Yes, I go with the flow, so I had to pick it up. :P

Short Story? - It wasn't too depressing and I actually liked it. Gayle has a beautiful writing style, very easy to read and comfortable. I think it's pretty amazing how she can write 200 pages about something that happened in one day, I salute you!

Which cover do you like the best? I kinda like the one on the bottom left. My copy had the first cover!

Long Story? - I liked it! Partly because it was so much shorter than everything else I have read lately and partly because it was a great story that wasn't too depressing. Apart from the start, which was wayyyyy to descriptive for my likings ( all that blood and gore made me sick, I will never be a doctor, even thinking about it now is making me queasy) the rest of the book was really great. Short, to the point and easy to read. Another reason why I don't read contemporary is because the stories don't go anywhere, the books are all about characters finding themselves so doesn't go anywhere, unlike paranormal or dystopian etc. BUT I liked this one evem if it didn't go anywhere. It wasn't a book for me but I still liked it so that says something right?Rating - 3.5/5

Blue Bloods

Review Time! My friend has been telling me to read this for ages and I finally picked it up last week and read it! I will tell you straight up - I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I will! Now this "friend" was the same "friend" who recommended me The Vampire Academy series which is the best vampire series out there! So I'm a bit disappointed in this one since it was probably one of my least favourite vampire novels!

Short Story - Too much description, too much designer brand not enough solid story!

Long Story- I don't really know what all this has to do with vampires because three quarters of the book was just descibing the inside of someones wardrobe or what a penthouse looks like. The other quarter was just that was about vampires just couldn't cover the whole point of vampires for the whole book! The book would have made a better teen drama/ chick lit then vampire paranormal. it wasn't terrible but it defeats the purpose of paranormal because all it was about was the inside of some vampires wardrobe and how awesome parties are! Um, not alot of romance either so ... Anyway in short ( or long) I didn't really enjoy this book :( Rating 2/5

When she begins dating college senior Jared Sondervan, she finds herself thoroughly embraced by the loving family she has always wanted and does not hesitate to say yes when Jared proposes on her 18th birhday. Plans for the Perfect Beach Wedding before her junior year of college become plans for the Perfect Beach Wedding before her freshman year of college. And a wedding so soon isn't exactly what Bronwen wants. But Jared is. And his family is. Or so she thinks. Before Bronwen can determine what she truly wants, she must first determine who she truly is, and the answer, she discovers, is only partially what she thought it was. She wasn't switched at birth, but she's also not Bronwen Oliver and hasn't been for a very long time. (Goodreads)

That's all my wishes for this week! I love the cover of The DUFF! It's so cute <3 The Replacement remonds me of E.T. and I Now Pronounce You As Someone Else is just a fantatsic title! What's on your wishlist?

She's So Dead To Us

Review Time! I finished this on last week but haven't posted a review on it yet because I wanted a solid week this week! Anyway, She's So Dead To Us is probably one of the BEST YA books I have read EVER. So this is a review worth reading!  Now, the first thing that attracted me to this book is the Tiffany blue cover with pearls, I admit I have this thing with pearls and Tiffany so I was like MINE! My second thought was this is going to be about some dead chick who was a rich snob, I was.. wrong! In fact she was or she is very much alive and it was a totally epic teen romance/ drama novel!

The Short Story? An epic novel that includes all the basics of a very good teen novel! Hot guys, rich kids, pretty girls, drama, romance, tension and I repeat myself ONE OF THE BEST YA BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ!

The Long Story? The first thing I notice about a book is how many pages there are (well, after the cover and the author and the publisher) and this one only had a short 273 pages so I was like score! Pretty cover and not too long. The plot in this story is really real-like I guess. It talks about cliques and separating the rich from the norms, it talks about jealousy, betrayal, teenage romance and everything in between! The writing style was very easy to read and swapped form the perspective of a girl to a boy and so forth. The start was really good because it went straight to the point, the ending was rather abrupt, straight after a KA-BOOM moment so I'm guessing there will be a sequel! Great characters ( did I mention hot?), fantastic writing ( Thank-you Kieran Scott), genius plot ( Thank-you again) and one of the best books I have read in a long time! It feels like I'm finally breathing fresh air again! Rating 5/5

The Eternal Ones

Review Time! Guys, I really excited about reviewing this one because it was absolutely the cutest thing ever! Okay, so The Eternal Ones written by Kirsten Miller, published and out in shops last week ( I think). Anyway, don't judge THIS book by it's cover, it may be a be abit plain looking but the story is far from that!

Anyway, the short story? A really, really cute romantic read woven together by a beautiful writing style.

The long story? The book was split up into two parts which I like to call Before Iain and After Iain anyway, this is a book about reincarnation and how two lovers whose relationship ended badly in the last life continue to be attracted to each other in this life. Haven who was a rich girl called Constance in the last life believes that the love of her life Ethan, is notorious party boy Iain Morrows in this life.

Anyway, in my opinion this was probably one of the better books that I have read this year ( no Glimmerglass or Spirit Bound but one of the better ones :P) The Before Iain part was pretty long and my opinion, too long and a tad boring. However, I guess the fact that the After Iain part was so fast-paced it kinda made up for it. The romance in this book can rival any best romances out there, it was simply so so so sweet! A but too much religion in this one too but I guess the fact that it has something to do with reincarnation, it all fits. Haven and Iain are definitely one of the cutest character couples! The highlight for this book I guess is that it was so romantic you simply can't dislike it! The writing style was beautiful, great characters, extremely clever plot, fantastic romance and a great read to dig into! Rating - 4.5/5

Academy 7

Review Time! Last catch up review! whoop whoop! I have been doing catch review for so long that I can't remember what it's likemto post normal stuff!!!! Anyway, I not a big fan of Science Fiction and anything relatively spacey but I loved this one! Possibly because it wasn't hard core sci-fi and just kinda refers to it every so often it was more of the forbidden romance, boarding school kinda book which I am a sucker for :P

The most memorable part of this novel I think is that the author ( Anne Osterlund) has very cleverly combined a modern day story with the sci -fi genre. I mean most sc-fi that I read which isn't many is all about saving the world or wars on Mars but this one was really girly in a way. It was romance and boarding on a different planet basically. The characters were really well, human-like ( aka just like you and me) and the idea of Academy 7 was really cool ( I wany to go to Academy 7). Easy to read, great plot, a bit of a slow start, great ending and basically a great read for poeple who aren't really sci-fi fans but want to read a good book !

The Three Lovers of Persimmon by Cassandra Gold - I haven't heard anything about this one until it turned up on my doorstep on Monday, I have read the blurb and it sound pretty good so should be good!
Saltwater Vampire by Kirsty Eagar - From the Australian author of Raw Blue this is a vampire thriller and well I like vampires, never read a thriller - well to my knowledge anyway but I didn't know I was reading chick lit until someone told me so yer)
The Eternal Ones by Kristen Miller - ZOMG!!!!! I have been wanting to read this book since..since like forever! Now I have my own copy to read, I was too happy to do anything for like half an hour that day :P
I am Number Four by Pittcus Lore - Aliens are the new Vampires! This book looks ( and sounds fantastic) actually I don't even know whether it's about aliens or not but apparently according to some review I read about it!

Graceling

Review Time Take Two! Sorry guys, that I'm like swamping you all with review but I have to catch up on my reviews or else, I will be forever behind! Graceling by Kristin Cashore was fantastic! I read it like two weeks ago but because I was behind on my reviews I haven't been able to post it til now and since I'm trying to get all my reviews up and going this weekend here is my review FINALLY!

Now, when I first started reading this book I was delighted to find that it was set in the middle ages (kinda with you know knights and inns and villagers and all), I love books that are set in the olden days, it reminded me of Eragon and The Rangers Apprentice series :P It was really fun to read!

Although the writing style was pretty serious it was still pretty easy to read, the characters were also really well brought out. The romance was terribly cute and the cover was really clever too. What I really like though was the who concept of a Graceling, it was really clever of the author think that up let alone a novel based around it. I also understand that writing about a whole different world to our own need alot of research and all to write so it really was a well written novel! However, I would have liked to see further than where the book ended I wasn't satisfied with the ending so that bought down the rating :( Rating 3.5/5

Hex Hall

Review Time! I stayed up til midnight to finish this one so if you don't read this review I will be very, very, very sad :P Anyway, I am finally working my way down my 2010 Debut Author TBR pile at a alright pace. Here's the thing with 2010 Debuts, you have to read them in 2010 or it's just not right and since august is nearly over I picked up my pace and started reading like mad!!! Now, I'm behind on my review books (arghhhhhhh)

Anyway, I LOVED this book! Here's the thing about me- I have to read a consecutive amount of good books after a awesome book or else I lose my reading faith for like three days (no joke) and I read Graceling (review coming up) then A Little Wanting song which was surprisingly good (Aussie!) and than Academy 7 ( review coming up!) then finally Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins and I have to say this just completes the stream of good books!

I found this book really easy to read (very easy). It was humorous, comfortable, teenage kinda writing. I find some books have very serious writing that is easy to read but makes reading it more like a job not a enjoyment (ie Twilight, enjoyed it but could have been better). This was just really quirky and witty and easy to read. That is the thing that stood out to me. I loved the plot, the start was great but the ending was rather abrupt, I would have liked to know what happened to Archer. The characters were really interesting, loved the cover and just a really great book. Probably, one of the better 2010 Debuts that I have read this year! Rating 4.5/5

A Little Wanting Song

Review Time! I finished this book last week but I am still behind on my reviews so arghhhhh!!! Anyway, A Little Wanting Song is a 2010 debut Novel and written by an Australian author! *squeal* I wasn't so sure about this one because I not a big fan of depressing novels and I had my doubys about this one but this one was just really amazing!

This novel was actually quite relaxing to read! It was not too long and very easy to read. A fantastic plot about finding yourself and being who you are. Being a true friend and living life to the maximum. A very easy to read writing style, set in rural Australia (yes, we don't have kangaroos jumping around everywhere! I for one live in a city :P) Anyway, love the whole book, truly it was so easy to get into and read!

For those of you who are just looking for a good book that isn't really hard core or too depressing this is the book! Seriously check this out!

Wanted

Review Time! So Karin and I hosted a Supernatural showdown not too long ago and I am still behind on reviews so this is another one of those reviews that I never got around too. Wanted is the 8th book in the Pretty Little Liars series and I'm pretty sure it's the last one too! I absolutely love this series so I'm pretty devastated that, this was the last book but apparently she is writing another mystery/ suspense series so I all good.

Now, these books are actually really confusing to read because there is so much going on and so it's really hard to keep up with! Anyway, this book was probably one of my favourites, partly because all the secrets are revealed ( I was so shocked with the truth). Also because everyone kinda gets a happy ending! One thing I like about this book is that it's not too long and there isn't really a boring moment in it! Everything is very fast-paced. Great characters (that I will miss), fantastic plot, a very comfortable writing style, loved the ending and one of the better series I have read. If you haven't read it yet, make sure you pick up a copy because it really is fantastic!

Before I Fall

Another review! ( Sorry guys! I just have so many to get through, I will be make to normal posting bout next week :P) Anyway, 2010 Debut Author masterpiece! I abit behind on my challenge so it's good that I finished this one! Anyway written by Lauren Oliver for those who didn't know (I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who hasn't read it yet)

Well, this certainly was a change! I have been reading so much paranormal and "otherworld stuff" a contemporary was a holiday in a way! Now, I enjoyed this book quite alot actually, basically it was about a girl who dies (Sam) and after she dies she has to repeat her last day as a living over and over again. Us, readers go through her experience and watch how everyday she slowly makes changes, discovers herself and finds true love just a tad too late! It was really, really sweet and I got a bit teary at the end I admit! Great characters, deals with real problems, fantastic plot and amazing cover. The only downer is that I find some parts of the book too slow moving or repetitive. However overall, it was a great read! Rating 4.25/5
